UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN – INNOVATION CAMPUS MAKER’S SPACE
The new Maker’s Space, located on the Innovation Campus in Lincoln, is the dream of Dr. Shane Farritor – a mechanical engineering professor, who had this experience in college at MIT. Students of all disciplines can join the Maker’s Space to do design work and create projects utilizing 3D printing, woodworking, metalworking, CNC milling, electronic test work, and have access to all types of hand tools. Industrial Maid, in conjunction with Tetrad Properties and the University of NE Foundation, donated locally manufactured equipment to help keep the space clean. The Maker’s Space Phase 1 is completed and the students are happy to have clean air in their workspaces. Two T 3000 units are located in the woodshop, to clear the nuisance dust from the area. A Model DFC unit has been used on a small laser cutting machine. Phases two and three will add more equipment for the metalworking and more 3D printing and finishing space.
The owners of Industrial Maid are both graduates of the University of NE Engineering College, Jeff Zvolanek with a BS in Industrial Engineering and Todd Adam with a BS in Construction Management. Zvolanek comments “It’s always a pleasure to help the college prepare our next generation with critical thinking creative minds.”
